How to get kids to learn?

1. Routine. Make learning a routine. Plan a timetable together and let her make the promise that she can do it.

2. Reward. After reading ABC and Chinese books, she can choose 1 or 2 books that she likes and read them to her, most children like story books with colorful pictures. 

3. Tell them how fun once they learn to read. Explain to her, “Once you can recognize ABC/ Chinese words, I will buy storybooks to teach you to read, once you learn to read, you can read it on your own anytime and don’t need to wait for mommy to read them for you.”

4. Teach by example. “Just like mommy enjoys reading books full of words. Mommy can read books for the whole evening when I was young, it’s really fun.” Make a routine reading time and each one reads their books in the room without any distractions like electronic devices.

5. Find out their interests, and learn through activities. Explore together and see what attracts their attention

   1. Gardening: grow some plants together and water them every day, check the growth

   2. Baking/ making desserts: make cookies, cakes, jelly, ice cream, candy, red eggs

   3. Music

   4. Art - painting

   5. Science- experiments

   6. Games: flashcards reading competition, scramble words, spelling games

6. Accompany and learn together until they can do it alone. You need to sacrifice some time and be patient to make it a habit of learning
